Something most have forgotten about is the ZPG mantra of the mid-seventies. Zero Population Growth, along with "save the planet", "limited resources", "reduce, reuse, recycle" etc. was huge then.
Families used to have more than two children. After obtaining enlightened consciousness about the planet, they began planning progeny and helped reduce the population.
'Only replace yourself' was the thought.
Ever wonder why all these illegals are allowed in? Govt needs the population to rise to keep tax flows.
